Open casting / open mould casting
Process consisting of pouring metal directly into a mould cavity exposed to the open air. This casting method is used in the production of billets, using metering nozzle.

Open stream
On continuous casters, flow of molten metal ejected into an open environment and which is visible to the eye on its way from the tundish to the open mould.
