Cast iron

Alloy of iron and carbon obtained by melting pig iron and scrap iron and steel, so brittle and hard that it has to be shaped by casting to produce objects of any desired shape.
English Cast iron
Français Fonte (f)
Deutsch Gusseisen
Español fundición
Português ferro fundido

Casting / pouring unit

In foundry, it is a machine used for pouring molten metal from the pressure furnace or the pouring ladle into the refractory on the molding line.
English Casting / pouring unit
Français Machine/ Moyen de coulée (f)(m)
Deutsch Walzmaschine
Español laminadora
Português máquina de laminar

Channel / pouring box / trough

In foundry, it is a part of the pressurized furnace into which molten metal is raised and along which it flows to the mould.

English Channel / pouring box / trough
Français Avant-bec de coulée (m)
Deutsch Wanne
Español Cubeta
Português Canal de escoamento

Clogging

Accumulation of substance in the flow passage between the tundish and the mould due among others to sticking of metal oxide on the nozzle wall or submerged entry nozzle/submerged entry shroud(SEN or SES).
English Clogging
Français Bouchage (m)
Deutsch verschlammung
Español atascamiento

Continuous caster/ Continuous casting machine / Continuous casting unit/ Strand caster /CCM

Machine for pouring liquid metal in a continuous manner from the ladle into the mould where it solidifies and is guided to be cut for further processing. Examples of continuous casters: 4-6 strand continuous billet casting machine/ billet caster form small metal sections of less than 150mm x 150 mm 2- 4 strand bloom caster cast sections of above 150mm x 150 mm Single strand slab caster uses only one strand to produce 150-400 mm thick and 100–1600 mm wide sections
English Continuous caster/ Continuous casting machine / Continuous casting unit/ Strand caster /CCM
Français Machine de coulée continue (f)
Deutsch Stranggußanlage
Español máquina de colada continua
Português lingotagem mecânica contínua

Continuous casting of steel / Steel continuous casting / Continuous casting process for steel

Steel continuous casting is a process consisting of gradual solidification of molten steel into semi-finished shapes such as billets, blooms, H-beams, slabs and thin slabs, without interruption. During the operation, the liquid steel flows from a ladle through a tundish into water cooled copper mold. Then, carried by the roll mills, it freezes and it is cut to desired length.

English Continuous casting of steel / Steel continuous casting / Continuous casting process for steel
Français Coulée continue d’acier (f)
Español Colada continua de acero (f)
Português Lingotamento contínuo de aço (m)

Cope box

Upper part of a box on horizontal molding line.
English Cope box
Français Châssis supérieur d’un moule (chantier horizontal) (m)
Deutsch Oberkasten
Español caja superior de moldeo
Português chassis superior

Copper plate

Pieces of copper that constitute the inner wall of a mould in a continuous casting. These copper plates extract heat from the liquid metal going through the mould, with purpose to create a solidification shell (skin). They are cooled by strong water cooling on the external side of the plate.
English Copper plate
Français Plaque de cuivre (f)

Cup

In pouring process, it is the “entrance door” to the mould.
English Cup
Français Bol (m)
Deutsch Becher
